Technology, it's a good thing

Neil Postman asks three questions about media at the end of chapter 24. he asked what the problem that technology solves, whose problem it is, and what other problems technology creates. The questions make you think hard about media and how it affects our lives. There are many possibilities as to who and what problems technology can cause. However I have always thought of technology as a good thing. I don't see technology as being a Faustian bargain, or a deal with t he devil. Many peoples lives are enriched because of technology. Hospitals, businesses and schools have all benefited from technology. Technology does have its drawbacks, yet I think the good outweighs the bad.

I feel as though technology has done amazing amounts of good for humanity. But it is also a huge drawback from human's understanding of our world and earth. I think because we are so technologically advanced, we don't spend enough time immersed in nature. we don't appreciate our earth for what it is.

I thought the questions at the end of the chapter were very though provoking. I feel that technology is something that can be beneficial if used in the correct manner as well as very destructive if used in the wrong manner. People use technology to advance their status instead of using it for the common good of man. I think that in our society it is not feasible to say that we should digress from how influential technology is, but I think we as humans should promote using technology for the common good.

Yes, technology has done lots of wonderful things for us. But the bad is in there, we just have to dig deep to find it. I think that our generation does not see it as much because technology has been around for the majority of our lives. Those who are much older can remember a time when there weren't cell phones, color tv's, and ipods. I think we have given up a lot of our privacy. We have also sacrificed our health and families to technology. Kids used to play outside... now they sit and play video games. Families used to be able to spend more quality time together without interference from the tv, ipod, cell phone, and computer. Of course our lives are easier because of technology, but when it is abused and overused, it is a problem.
